Jules Ornstein

Jules Ornstein

We would like to express the sorrow we feel in the passing of Judge Jules Ornstein.  Jules was a common gladiator at the Downtown YMCA before it closed  (to Handball) and then played at both Carmody rec center and Green Mountain afterwards.  Jules started playing 1 wall Handball in New York as a young man and carried the disease to Denver-adapting to 4 wall.  He was a mainstay at the Downtown Y playing with greats like Les Shumate, John Hardy, Don Carlson and Hulett Marshall.

He continued playing Handball untill the late 2000's--his early 80's.  Jules fought the bereavement of Dementia until his passing on February 7th 2020.

Jules was accompanied by several close Handball friends up till his departure.  Weekly visits and lunch venues shared-as only Handball guys do- the passion of life and support.  Jules will be missed not only for his love of the "Perfect sport" but also for the fine quality of his character in mentoring young people at the YMCA as well as people involved within the judicial system
